Hedda Gabler
This classic play, written by Henrik Ibsen, is set in 1893 in Norway. Inspiration for these designs includes Norwegian folk costumes and Norwegian military uniforms. A key costume story is Hedda Gabler's, which includes many conflicting patterns, which begin to multiply as the play progresses, reflecting her inner-turmoil as she loses control of herself and the situations around her. This includes floral patterns, which represent a potential pregnancy she is in denial of. Her silhouette evolves throughout to resemble her father's military General uniform, and includes the addition of brooches reminiscent of the medal he would have had, and her desire to embody his strength and power, the theme being she is more her father's daughter than her husband's wife. This show is unrealized, designed in April 2024.
