Mr Burns, A Post-Electric Play
This apocalyptic production, written by Anne Washburn, follows six characters as they navigate a post-nuclear-meltdown society, and make desperate attempts to put on live productions of The Simpsons, culminating in a final cult-like live, musical performance of the beloved cartoon. These designs for Act Three were created with realism in mind, and are designed to be constructed with real-world recyclables to emulate the found objects that would potentially be used by those actors and technicians, seven years post-apocalypse. A spotlight character is Mr. Burns himself: as a nuclear power entrepreneur, green satin with patchwork and a mask of melting gold displays how his greed and its effects would be interpreted in a post-nuclear society. Drywall-stilts allow him to tower and loom over the other actors, much like the permanent consequences of similar men's' actions would in their current reality. This is an unrealized show, designed in November 2023.
